2003:
At the end of 2002, Down entered into an agreement with Gaelic Gear, who had secured a licence from the GAA to manufacture county kits. Though the basic design would stay the same, there were a lot of variations.
2003-4:
The county's first year with the company was fairly stable, however, with just the neck switching to a left-over-right format.
2004:
For reasons unknown, Gaelic Gear neglected to properly colour the crest on the sleeve for the Division 2 league final against Offaly.
2004:
Another change to the collar, with the Gaelic Gear logo changed - different ones on the shirt and shorts, naturally. Inexplicably, the 'Hotel' part of the sponsor did not have a black outline.
2004:
The collar reverted, with the new manufacturer's logo remaining.
2005:
As with the new collar introduced in '04, but this time all of the sponsor was in black outline.
2005:
Long-sleeved version used in league games.
2005:
Another differenct collar, with quite a large neck insert.
2005:
The long-sleeved jerseys couldn't even stay consistent - for the championship game against Tyrone the red lines on the cuffs disappeared.
2005:
The final Gaelic Gear variation had a totally different collar, while the Gaelic Gear wordmark was in white. As well, none of the sponsor had an outline.
2006-07:
Launched in late 2005 as Down's association with Gaelic Gear ended, the return to O'Neills brought about something radical with a dark panel on the upper part of the torso. Though it looked grey, it was in fact black with small white dots.
2008:
Front numbers added.
2009:
The new kit for 2009 saw Down revert to a more simple design than that which preceded it, similar to the outfit worn in the 1980s, though that had red sleeves.
2010:
Shorts and socks changed, as well as the GAA logo.
2007:
To the best of our knowledge, Down didn't need to change during the Gaelic Gear tenure. In 2007, however, despite being back with O'Neills they used the older jerseys for a hurling league game against Cork.
2009:
As usual, when the need arose, Down wore a version of their kit in the Ulster colours when coming up against a team they clashed with. Worn during the U21 campaign of 2009, when Down reached the final only to lose to Cork.
2010:
When Down got to the All-Ireland final it was Cork they faced, as in the U21 decider of the previous year. As a result, both teams were forced to change, with the Mourne Men losing their first-ever final.
2011-12:
Down met Cork again in the All-Ireland qualifiers and rather than use the traditional gold change jerseys, an all-black kit was used for the first time in almost 30 years. Essentially the same design as the goalkeeper kit, this shirt featured a collar.
2013-:
Black remained as the alternative choice, with the design now exactly the same as the red shirt but in reverse.
2006-07:
Same design as the new jersey upon the return to O'Neills, though grey was now the secondary colour.
2008:
Front numbers added.
2009:
A return to tradition for the new goalkeeper bit, basically a reversal of the regular strip.
2010:
Change to GAA logo, only used in short-sleeved format in 2010.
2011:
Unusually, the new Down goalkeeper jersey didn't follow the design of the outfield shirt, with a red V-neck used and a slightly different trim on the sides.
2011:
When black was worn against Cork, a gold version of the nw goalkeeper kit was used.
